Valsad: A 72-year old man and his daughter allegedly tried to dispose of the body of his wife, who had apparently died due to ill health, by burning it in their house on Malavyaji Road in Valsad, Gujarat Police said.
Magan Rana and his 44-year-old daughter Kaushal had cut the body of his 70-year old wife into pieces and were burning it in the balcony of their house last night, when the neighbours complained of fire in the house, police said.
The father-daughter duo initially said that they had burnt their cat, which had died. However, during further probe, Magan revealed that the burnt remains were of his wife Savita, who had died on January 29 after prolonged illness. It has been suspected that the act was a part of some blind faith, police said.
The remains have been sent for postmortem to ascertain if the death was natural or not, police said, adding that following the postmortem report, further course of investigation would be decided.
