GONDA: Four members of a family were today arrested in case of honour killing of a couple in Khargupur area, a senior police officer said here today.
On February 18, bodies of Vinod Kumar and Sushila were recovered from cane field in Susgawan area and prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide, Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Pandey said.
Probing the matter, the police arrested Sushila's father Ghanshyam, mother Geeta Devi, brother Ashok and uncle Nanke Gosai and they confessed the honour killing.
The DySP said that post mortem report confirmed that while Vinod was strangulated, Sushila was poisoned and there was a five-day gap between the two deaths.
Investigation revealed that Vinod had illicit relation with Sushila and the two had eloped on February 8. However, the couple was caught by the family members on February 11 and Vinod was strangulated after torture, Pandey said.
The police official said that Sushila was killed on February 15 by administering poisonous substance. To make it appear as suicide, both bodies were left in the field.
