In yet another case of honour killing, a 65-year-old farmer from Khatav taluka in Satara district killed his 25-year-old daughter, after she announced her decision to marry a man outside their community. The incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday in Aundh locality. Hours after the killing of his daughter Aasha, Shankar Shinde surrendered before the Aundh police, confessing his crime.
According to the Aundh police, the incident took place when Aasha and her father were at their residence, while her mother Pramila had left for her routine morning walk and sister-in-law Dhanashree was taking a bath.
The police added that initially Shankar hit Aasha with an iron angle and later with a wooden rod on the head.
Chandrakant Shirke, API, Aundh police station, said, "Impact of the hit was such that Aasha died on the spot."
Aasha, who had recently completed her Master of Social Work (MSW), was working at a city hospital.
She had fixed her marriage with a city-based boy working in a private firm, which had irked her parents.
"For the last 15 days, the Shindes were trying to convince Aasha against marrying the boy of her choice.
But she remained firm on her decision," said Shirke. "So far Shinde has shown no remorse about his act."
Shinde, who was produced before the local court, was remanded in police custody till February 22.
