GHAZIABAD: The girl who was raped and left to die on railway tracks in Ghaziabad last week was targeted by a man who knew her and was from the same village.
The accused, Feroz, 21, was arrested from Hapur on Saturday , police said. Feroz, who lives in Kaila Bhatta village, admitted to having taken the eightyear-old girl to a secluded spot behind his house and raped her.
"He told us that he knew the victim and lured her by offering Rs 30 and some peanuts. After taking her to a deserted spot, he forced himself on her. He denied having any business rivalry with her father.
When the girl started bawling and complaining of pain, he promised to take her to hospital . On the way, however, the accused was gripped by the fear of getting caught and decided to kill her. He threw her 20 feet down from a bridge to the Delhi-Kanpur track and fled. We have registered a case under IPC sections 376, 307 and 363," said SSP (Ghaziabad) Raghuvir Lal.
However, the girl survived the brutal murder attempt. She lay between two tracks on Delhi-Howrah railway section in the chilly winter night. Despite several trains passing over her, the girl remained unhurt.
On the morning of February 6, locals rushed her to MMG Hospital. She has sustained a hip-joint fracture and severe head injuries
"We have collected all forensic evidence. The girl has recovered and would be able to give her statement in court," said the circle officer-I of the area, Rajesh Bharti.
