Feb 5, 2012: Ganjam youth held for 'raping' mother of two

BERHAMPUR: In another rape incident in Ganjam district, police on Friday arrested a 24-year-old man from Digapahandi. The accused, an agent of a private finance company, allegedly raped a married woman at Bijipur in the town.

The 30-year-old woman, a mother of two, alleged that the accused had intoxicated her before committing the crime, a few days ago. She, however, lodged an FIR only on Friday.

IIC (Town) S K Mohapatra said, "We have arrested Patnaik from Digapahandi. Both the victim and the accused were sent for medical test."

This was the fourth rape case reported to the police in the last two weeks in Berhampur city. Police had arrested a 23-year-old on Monday on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

The accused, the owner of a fast food centre, allegedly kidnapped a 15-year-old girl from Khallikote about three years ago. He sexually exploited her, after promising marriage.
