HYDERABAD: Suspecting his lover's loyalty, a cab driver murdered the woman and her brother at their house at Yousufguda on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Prabhavati, 22, a tailor, and her brother Kiran Kumar, 25, a private employee in Yousufguda's LN Nagar. Prabhavati leaves behind her six-year-old son, Yogasai Charan.
She had been staying separately from her husband, Venkateswarulu, against whom she filed a harassment case (498-A of the IPC) at the Kandukur police station in Prakasam district.
After getting separated from her husband a couple of years ago, Prabhavati came to the city with her son.
She started staying with her elder brother Kiran Kumar, who himself got separated from his wife.
However, for the last few months, Prabhavati became close to a local cab driver, Sk Mastan alias Srinivas.
Police said Mastan used to frequently visit the house when Prabhavati was alone.
Later, Kiran came to know about their affair and a month ago told his mother, Koteswaramma, to come and stay with them.
"After Koteswaramma came, Mastan could not find a chance to meet Prabhavati, and subsequently, she also started avoiding him.
"Mastan grew suspicious thinking that she had became close to somebody else and hatched a plan to kill her," Banjara Hills inspector M Sudarshan said.
As part of his plan, Mastan went to Prabhavati's house at 5am and knocked on the door. Koteswaramma who opened the door picked up an argument with Mastan.
Mastan slapped Koteswaramma, pushed her aside and made his way into the house.
"He then stabbed Prabhavati repeatedly in the abdomen. When her brother Kiran tried to protect her, he was also stabbed in the stomach by Mastan.
"With critical injuries, both of them died on the spot," the inspector said.
Six-year-old Yogasai was the only witness to the gruesome murder. After the double murder, Mastan went to the police and surrendered.
Based on the complaint lodged by Koteswaramma, police booked a murder case against Mastan.
The bodies were handed over to Koteswaramma after the post-mortem.
