NEW DELHI: In an apparent case of love rivalry, a 20-year-old college student allegedly abducted his friend with the help of three associates and killed the victim after drugging him, police said today.
Rudarvesh Tanwar and his friends Sachin Kadyan, Manesh Kumar and Dhruvesh Goswami were arrested this afternoon for allegedly kidnapping and murdering Aashish.
The four accused not only killed the victim, but also phoned his parents after the incident and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh for his release, they said.
Police action came on a complaint filed by businessman Ashok Kumar, who alleged that his son went to a birthday party in Dwarka but did not return.
"The complainant tried to contact his son but there was no response. At around 7.30 pm yesterday, he got a call demanding Rs 50 lakh for the release of his son," DCP (South- West District) A K Ojha said.
The abductors made a fresh call this morning and asked for the same amount, but the amount was scaled down to Rs 30 lakh. The victim's father was asked to arrive at a Metro station to deliver the money.
Though the callers changed the location, police arrested Tanwar and Kadyan who came to collect the money and nabbed Kumar and Goswami at their instance.
It was after their arrest, police came to know that Aashish had been murdered in Rohini at a rented accommodation, Ojha said.
He said Tanwar, who is pursuing BBA from DIMT College, Kurukshetra University, was the classmate of the victim in school and both had an altercation over a girl.
"The arrested accused revealed that Tanwar wanted to settle his personal score with the victim and planned to extort money from their parents. It was predetermined that the victim was to be killed as and when he becomes unconscious with sedatives," the DCP said.
