Jaipur: A 15-year-old girl has complained against her father in Rajasthan saying he was forcing her to marry an elderly person, police said Monday.The Class 10 student told police that her father was trying to fix her marriage by charging Rs.35,000 from the would be in laws. The girl also said that she wished to pursue her studies which would not be possible if she got married. Police have launched a search for the man, an officer said.
According to police, the incident took place in a village near Hanuman Nagar town in Bhilwara district, some 300 km from Jaipur. The girl, Sharama Kumari, came to the police station alone Sunday evening and expressed her wish to lodge a complaint.
"Our staff was surprised when the teenager said that it was her father against whom she wanted to register the case," a police officer told IANS. The girl alleged that her father Ramkunwar Meena was forcing her to marry a man from nearby Hindowali area, the officer said.
"She said she wanted to study further and did not want to marry. She also said that as she was below the age of 18, her father could not marry her off as it was a crime," said the officer. "On the basis of the girl's complaint, we have launched an investigation and are trying to trace the father," the officer said.
