BURDWAN (WB): A 72-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour at Raina in Burdwan district, police said.
Radhakanto Gupta, alias Kushik, was arrested this morning for allegedly commiting the heinous act on the elderly woman when she went to the farm land in the wee hours of Tuesday, which led to her hospitalisation at local health centre and then Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.
The arrest was made after the woman narrated her ordeal to her daughter-in-law and a complaint made by the family.
Radhakanto was remanded to judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court today with no lawyer representing him.
He was remanded to 14 days' judicial custody.
