RAIPUR: A minor tribal girl, who refused to marry, has come in for praise fromChhattisgarh government which has decided to take care of her studies and also marriage when she decides to tie the knot.
Sunita Netam, 17, a resident of Behradeh village in Gariaband district, was felicitated by Tribal Welfare Minister Kedar Kashyap yesterday for showing courage and saying no to under-age marriage, official sources said today.
The girl resisted pressure from society and firmly refused to enter into a wedlock before the legal age of marriage, they said.
Netam's decision will serve as an inspiration for others, Kashyap said and called upon the society to focus on imparting education to girls.
On the occasion, the Minister announced the Government will take care of the teenager's future expenses on education and also marriage, the sources said.
Netam, who has studied up to Class IX, wants to study further and make a career in teaching so that she can help in education of others.
