Jun 18, 2012: Man kills 2-yr-old daughter during fight with wife

JAIPUR: Uncontrollable rage triggered by disputes with his wife made an alcoholic man so brutal that he killed their two-year old daughter by throwing her against the wall in Nohar police station area of Hanumangarh district.

The father buried the boy in a cremation ground to hide the crime, but her mother mustered courage to lodge an FIR with the police three days after the incident. The police on Sunday exhumed the girl's body and found severe injury marks on the head. The father is now on the run.

According to the police, the incident took place in Budhasar Bada village, about 50 kilometers from Nohar, on June 14. "Teluram, a labourer, and his wife Meera had frequent disputes over petty issues. Teluram was addicted to alcohol. He had come home after consuming liquor on June 14 and had a fight with his wife," SHO Nohar Richhpal Singh said.

The couple had a two-year old girl, Monika. "She was woken up due to the fight and intervened. Teluram was drunk, so he lifted the girl and threw her against the wall. Her head hit the wall and she died on the spot," the officer said.

The officer said further said Teluram threatened to kill Meera also if she revealed about the girl's death to anyone. "He buried the girl. However, fellow villagers noticed the girl was missing and started enquiring about it. Meera revealed the death to her in-laws first and then to her family members," the officer said.

Police said that Meera's family members came to her house and persuaded her to lodge an FIR. "She registered the case on Saturday evening. We identified the spot where the girl was buried and exhumed her body on Sunday," the officer said.

Later, postmortem of the girl's body was conducted. "The postmortem report revealed that she had sustained injuries on her head when she was hit against the wall. It resulted in her death," Singh said.

Singh added that the father is missing for the past two days. "He was not seen in the village. He seems to be absconding fearing arrest. Teams have been rushed to various places. We are recording the statement of his wife and other family members," the officer added.
