MANGALORE: In a gruesome and shocking incident, a man has allegedly murdered his wife and three children at his house in Bettampady at Puttur, 60 km from here.
Police said the incident had happened two days back and it came to light on Thursday when aMescom line man went to the house for meter reading. The house, Kakkuru Mane at Bettampady is about 22 kms from Puttur and said to be a remote area.
The accused has been identified as Venkataramana (51) and is absconding. Police said he may have killed his wife Sandhya, daughters Vedhya (16), Harigovind (14) and Vinuta (13). All the three were bludgeoned to death, police said.
Police said a few days ago a theft was reported from Venkataramana's house. Police now suspect that he may have committed the theft and lodged a false complaint, adding that the fear of his family revealing his name under pressure may have forced him to commit the murders.
