JAIPUR: A 23-year old woman immolated herself and her 2-year old son reportedly over continued harassment by her husband in Bundi town on Monday night. The husband is allegedly an alcoholic and used to have frequent quarrel with the victim. Police said that he is on the run.
According to the police, the incident took place at Bundi's Rajat Griha Colony.
"The woman, Vimla, had lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday saying that her husbandMahipal Singh beat her up. We arrested Mahipal. However, he was released on bail. The surety bonds for the bail were furnished by Mahipal's father," said the officer.
As soon as Mahipal reached home on Monday, he again started a violent fight with his wife. "In a bid to beat Vimla, he mistakenly hurt himself as his hand hit a window. He left home to see a doctor when Vimla bolted herself and his son, Parvi, inside a room and set not only herself but also the son on fire," said the officer.
Police said that the woman's family members who live in Jaipur have been informed. "Postmortem of the bodies will be conducted in their presence," said the officer.Link: Woman immolates self and son over harassment by husband
