MUMBAI: A school teacher was arrested for allegedly molesting a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) lady conductor following an altercation on a bus at Nalasopara on Monday evening.
The Nalasopara police said that when the 30-year-old conductor approached Mathew Dabre (36) for his fare of Rs 8 from Palghar to Bhuigaon, he took out a Rs 1,000 note from his purse. The two got into an argument when she demanded the exact fare.
As Dabre's destination neared, she insisted on the fare. But Dabre, who was allegedly drunk, caught hold of her right hand and twisted it. The conductor got the driver to divert the bus to the police station. In a police complaint, she claimed Dabre even tried to unbutton her khaki uniform shirt and hurled abuses at her.
Senior inspector Shriram Koregaonkar said Dabre had been booked under Sections 354 (molestation) and 355 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code. The Vasai sessions court sent Dabre to police custody on Tuesday, while she was administered first-aid at the Nalasopara public health centre.
Nalasopara state transport depot running staff stopped work in protest against the molestation incident, and MSTRC union members demanded action against Dabre.
