NEW DELHI: A 33-year-old 'tantrik' has been arrested in west Delhi for allegedly raping women after blackmailing them and forcing them to give away their property, said police. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Sanaullah.
The police said he was apprehended from Uttam Nagar on Tuesday. The arrest came following a complaint filed by a woman on Monday that she was being raped allegedly by a tantrik, who also got her property registered in his wife's name by deceiving her.
"The complainant's husband is running a transport business for the last few years and the business has not been yielding profit. Someone advised the complainant to approach a tantrik for solving her health and business problems. The woman approached Sanaullah and after taking Rs 5,000 he asked her to visit alone on March 24. She went to the place told by the tantric, who offered her drinks laced with sedatives. He then raped her," said V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west).
The tantrik threatened her with dire consequences and photographed her using his mobile phone. He started blackmailing her and forced her to donate her property in his wife's name, said police.
"The victim did not tell anybody about her ordeal. But when the tantrik started making fresh demands, she informed her brother who asked her to approach the police," Renganathan said.
