KANPUR: A young couple was chased, shot at and critically wounded in broad daylight by a group of six assailants, said to be relatives of the girl, at the busy Ramadevi crossing on Friday while they were waiting to catch a bus for Allahabad.
Preliminary investigations indicated that it could be a case of attempted `honour killing' by the family members of the girl, Chakeri police said, adding that investigations are on. The couple had been admitted at Ursula Horsman Hospital with gunshot wounds. Reportedly, Deepchand Rajput (23) and Beenu Rajput (20) got married through court on July 22 this year after they eloped from their homes in Parsauli village in Bidhnoo. Girl's father Vijay Pal Rajput and his accomplices all family members of Beenu Rajput, opened fire at her and her husband Deepchand at around 10 am on the busy Ramadevi crossing, said asenior police official.
