Nov 2, 2011: Woman beats husband to death

KANPUR: A 50-year-old man, who allegedly attempted to rape his 16-year-old daughter at his house in Gambhirpur near Ratanpur, in the limits of Panki police, was beaten to death by his wife on Monday night.
Accused Meena, initially attempted to divert the attention of the police by stating that her neighbours Yogendra Pal, Anil Kumar Verma and Shiv Shanker Verma barged into her house and killed her husband Shailendra Raidas.
During further course of investigation, police suspected her involvement in the crime. On being grilled, Meena admitted of murdering her husband. She said that her husband, a mason by profession, used to sexually assault her elder daughter.
"He used to consume liquor and beat her up and other family members when they offer resistance. Many times, she had reported the to the beat policemen, but no action was taken on the ground that it was a family matter," said a neighbour.
On Monday night, while he was attempting to rape the younger teenaged daughter, the latter raised an alarm. All the family members woke up., Meena rushed to her daughter's rescue and attacked her husband with an iron rod in a fit of rage. When he fell down unconscious, she continued assaulting him till he breathed his last. After ascertaining that her husband had died, she went to the police station and accused her neighbours of killing her husband and lodged a named FIR against the trio.
"The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and Meena has been arrested. The police have also recovered the iron rod used in the killing," DIG Rajesh Rai said.
