PUNE: The Yerawada Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly abducting and raping a 17-year-old girl on the pretext of marrying her. The incident took place between October 19 and November 2 in Yerawada area.
The police have identified the suspect as Sachin Madhukar Salvi (19), a resident of Ahmednagar district. Salvi was arrested after the victim lodged the complaint against him.
According to the police, Salvi and the victim were from the same district. Salvi used to harass the victim for marrying with him. When the victim's father came to know about it, he sent her to Pune for her further studies. She was staying in Yerawada area with her relatives.
Police said that Salvi managed to contact the victim in Pune. Later, he forced her to leave her relative's place saying that he would marry her. He then took her to a lodge at Ghodegaon and allegedly raped her. When the victim came to know that Salvi cheated her, she came to the police and lodged the complaint.
The Yerawada Police arrested Salvi from Ahmednagar. He was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate (First class) in the sessions and district court in Pune. Salvi was remanded to police custody till November 8. The Police are investigating the case.
