TAMLUK: A 25-year-old youth, Shibshankar Bej, was arrested on Sunday, for killing his pregnant fiancee and hiding her body in a septic tank of his house, after a relative leaked the truth. The accused was let off by police two days back, when he had reportedly denied killing the girl. Locals had also blocked the Digha-Mecheda state highway for an hour on Sunday to demand the culprit's arrest.
The 17-year-old victim, had an affair with Shibshankar and was pregnant with his child. Shibshankar had promised to marry her, locals claimed. However, as the marriage drew closer, Shibshankar told his fiancee that he was unable to marry her. The girl threatened to reveal the secret to her family and informed them about it on October 31. She went missing the same night.
Her family members lodged a complaint against Shibshankar two days later. Police detained Shibshankar on November 4 but was let off after the accused denied the allegations. The body of the girl has been sent for post mortem.
