NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for raping an eight-year-old girl saying the convict committed the gruesome act to "satisfy his lust" despite himself being "a father of two daughters".
Additional sessions judge Madhu Jain while awarding punishment to Bapa Nagar residentMohammed Anuluddin said he raped the girl taking advantage of her being alone in the house with her small sibling as her parents had gone out.
"Convict himself has five children, out of which two are girls aged about five and six years. But to satisfy his lust, he committed rape upon an eight-year-old child," the judge said while refusing to show any leniency to him.
The court said in the present case, testimony of the victim alone is sufficient to convict the accused and it does not require any corroboration from anyone.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict stipulating that if recovered, Rs 30,000 out of it, should be given to the victim.
According to the prosecution, Anuluddin had raped the child, who was his neighbour, in April 2009 when her parents had gone to market and she was alone in her house with her younger brother.
The victim deposed in the court that Anuluddin had called her when she was playing with her four-year-old brother on the roof and as she went upstairs, he raped her. He left her unconscious on the roof.
A case was registered at Prasad Nagar police station and Anuluddin was arrested.
