PANAJI: Crime branch officials have rescued a 21-year-old commercial sex victim after raiding a house at Neura village in Old Goa on Saturday night. Three persons have been arrested by the police for allegedly forcing the girl into prostitution.
The crime branch team led by PI Sudesh Naik raided the residence of Manuel Rebeiro and rescued the girl, who was brought to the state a month ago with the promise of securing a job, but was later forced into sex work.
Police said that they had information that Dhaniram alias Raju alias Raj Patel from Madhya Pradesh and Manuel Rebeiro from Neura had procured some girls for prostitution and kept them at Rebeiro's house in Neura. On Saturday night, crime branch officials along with NGO ARZ raided the house and rescued the victim girl, who is originally from Bijapur in Karnataka.
At the house, they also found taxi driver Prakash Simepurushkar from Calangute who was in charge of driving the victim to her customers. The three accused were arrested under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act. The victim has been remanded to the state protective home.
A class VIII dropout, the victim was doing odd jobs in Mumbai, when she met the accused Raju who brought her to Goa by promising her a job here, the police said. They added that Patel has been active in the trafficking of victims from Mumbai to Goa for "flat-based prostitution", wherein girls are brought and kept in flats and then supplied to customers in hotels, since the Baina demolition.
Police said that the victim was exploited by her traffickers. "They would charge anything between 4000 and 5000 from each customer and would force her to service at least five to six customers everyday. The traffickers would pay the victim less than 25% of what they earned by using her for the purpose of prostitution," police sources said.
