JAIPUR: A spurned lover attacked a first-year engineering student with a sickle, injuring her seriously on the head, in Sirsi Road area near Panchyawala on Tuesday afternoon.
Residents caught the youth while trying to escape and thrashed him severely. Both have been admitted to a hospital. The police have registered an FIR against the accused.
According to the police, Shalini Singh is a resident of Panchyawala and studies at a private engineering college in Sitapura.
Accused Hardeep Singh is a resident of Gangasagar Colony in Vaishali Nagar. He is a Bachelor of Pharmacy student at a private city college.
"During preliminary investigation, it has come up that the girl was being harassed by Singh. It seems she turned down his offer of friendship following which he decided to take revenge. An investigation is on," the officer added.
She was returning home after college when the incident took place. "She reached Sirsi Road on a bus and was walking to Panchyawala junction when one Hardeep Singh attacked the girl with a sickle," said a police officer. "When the passers-by heard her cries, they rushed to her help. Some caught Hari Singh and started thrashing him at the spot," the officer said. The accused was dragged, and sustained fracture on the leg, he said.
