BANGALORE: A 27-year-old homemaker,Vanajakshi of Gottigere on Bannerghatta Road, died after her husband, Vinay Kumar, allegedly threw acid on her. He buried her body about 100 km away.
On Friday, Vinay and Vanajakshi had an argument when she asked him to buy gold jewellery. In a fit of anger, Vinay threw acid on her.
"He came to the police station at around 10.30am on Saturday and reported that his wife had been kidnapped by some persons who were trying to conduct black magic. We went to his house and found lemon and vermilion in front of the house. First we thought that they had conducted religious rites, but Vinay was adamant that someone had kidnapped her.
But on questioning, he broke down and told us that he had thrown acid on her and taken the body to Punganur, bordering Mulbagal in Kolar district," an investigating officer said.
Real motive not known, say cops
He lived in a house rented out by his father-in-law in the same neighbourhood. We are yet to find the real motive behind the murder. We have only his version now," police said. Police said Vinay confessed that after killing Vanajakshi, he took the body in a Tata Sumo belonging to his friend to Punganur, Andhra Pradesh, where he buried it.
A police team has gone to Punganur to exhume the body. The team is facing difficulty in locating the body as Vinay has forgotten the exact location, in the Punganur ghat section. "Once we get the driver-cum-owner of the SUV, we will be able to locate the body," said a police officer. A 'missing' complaint, registered earlier, has been converted into a case of murder against Vinay. The case was registered on the complaint given by Vanajakshi's father.
