BANGALORE: A drunk husband bit his sleeping wife's ear lobe in Kumaraswamy Layout on Tuesday night. Police claim he had fought with her earlier.

Roopa, 34, told police her husband Nagaraj Reddy never spent time with her and didn't care about her needs. On Tuesday, Reddy came home drunk around 10pm. Soon after dinner, they had a heated argument over his wayward ways. She went to sleep little realizing that Nagaraj was still seething with anger. A little while later, he grabbed her and bit off her ear lobe. Even as Roopa screamed in pain, Reddy separated the part which had the earring and swallowed the rest, police said.

While neighbours rushed to her rescue and took her to hospital, Reddy slipped away from the house and escaped. He's still absconding.

Roopa and Nagaraj had been married for about a year after falling in love. A missed call led to friendship and eventually marriage, police claimed.

Roopa had two children from an earlier marriage. After that relationship broke down, she married Reddy. Her children stay with her parents and the couple lived in a rented accommodation. Reddy, a native of Kandegala of Malavalli taluk in Mandya district, was reportedly a casual worker withBescom.
