New Delhi: A 64-year-old woman was robbed and then murdered at her residence in west Delhi, a senior police official said on Friday.
The police officials investigating the case claimed that the murderer seemed known to the victim since there were no signs of a house break-in.
Pavittar Kaur was alone at the time of the incident, said the officials, adding that her husband Kawaljeet Singh and her son Sunit Singh went to their AC repair and sales office.
"Her daughter-in-law Anupreet Kaur, a teacher, had left for her school in Pitampura," said the official.
According to police, around 1:15 p.m., the woman's neighbour, Ravinder Kaur, who lives on the ground floor, heard someone banging the door.
"She told us, she went upstairs to check on Pavittar but since the door was locked from inside, returned home. She tried calling on her phone but it was switched off. After about 20 minutes, she heard someone storm down the stairs. This time again, she went out to check who it was, but by then the person had left," said a senior police official.
"Around 3 p.m., Pavittar's grandchildren came back home from school and found the door locked from the outside. They went downstairs and informed Ravinder. The three then entered the house only to find the victim lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen," said the official.
Investigations into the case revealed that Rs.50,000 and two gold bangles were missing.
The police said that they are also looking into the role of the servant who had taken leave on Friday, saying she had to get her voter ID card made. She was employed only months ago.
