HYDERABAD: Police on Tuesday arrested a Microsoft software engineer in a domestic violence case.
Acting on a complaint lodged by 26-year-old Nishath Sultana, who is also a software engineer with Wipro,Bangalore, police arrested her husband Faisal Akhtar Mev, 38, of Al Hasanth Colony, Mehdipatnam, on Tuesday.
On July 23, Nishath approached the police alleging that her husband had physically assaulted her at their residence on July 20 and that she suffered injuries on her left hand and mouth. She further complained that her father-in-law Siraj Akhtar Khan, a well-known advocate from Indore, and mother-in-law Nasima Akhtar Khan, were present at the house when the incident happened and they too abused her.
Nishath told the police that refusal to give additional dowry was the reason for the harassment. "Nishat also alleged that Faisal and his family members cheated her by concealing about his first marriage," Humayun Nagar inspector P Madhukar Swamy said.
Based on the complaint lodged by Nishat, police booked a case against Faisal and his parents under sections 498-A (Subjecting a married woman to cruelty), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (Criminal intimidation), section 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
"Faisal was arrested on Tuesday morning. He was produced in court which remanded him in judicial custody. We have not yet arrested the other accused," the inspector said.
