NEW DELHI: A four-year old girl was allegedly molested and an attempt to rape her was made by her 19-year-old cousin in the Welcome area in east Delhi on Saturday afternoon.
The boy was caught when two women spotted him as he took the child inside the Jheel Park to rape her. The accused has been arrested.
"The incident occurred around 3pm when two women saw the boy going inside the park. One of them called the police when she saw the boy in an objectionable position with the child. We have arrested the accused and charged him with attempt to rape on the basis of the statement of the eyewitness," said a senior police officer.
As per the complaint, the brother of the accused had brought the child from her house in Welcome area to his house in Kanti Nagar. The accused offered to drop her back. Upon reaching the Welcome area, he went inside the Jheel Park with her. When two women saw him going towards that area in the park which had no exit, they became suspicious and followed him. The women entered the park and saw him in an objectionable position with the child and raised an alarm.
"The accused first tried misleading the police by saying he was the child's brother and would not do such a thing. However, on questioning he admitted to the crime. He was sent to Tihar Jail after being produced in the court," said the officer.
The victim's father said, "Yesterday, his brother took my child from the house on the pretext of playing with her. We let her go because we trusted them. We never thought he will try to rape her. He should face strict punishment."
