BHAVNAGAR: A member of National Security Guard (NSG) killed his wife, suspecting her of infidelity, in Bhavnagar on Tuesday night. Later, he attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance.
According to police officials, Dalsukh Rathod, 30, a resident of Yogeshwar Flats in Kaliyabid area, killed his wife Kalpana with a knife in his home at 9.30 pm.
"We found Kalpana lying in a pool of blood. Rathod was also in a serious condition after consuming poison. We rushed him to a government hospital in our police jeep and then shifted him to a private hospital," police inspector Pradeepsinh Jadeja said.
Preliminary investigations revealed Rathod belongs to the Dalit community and is a native of Varal village in Sihor taluka of Rajkot, while his wife was a Brahmin. Three years ago, both got married.
Kalpana was working with an insurance company in Bhavnagar and Rathod was posted in Delhi as an NSG commando. He joined the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and was later selected in the elite force.
"Rathod told us he loved Kalpana, but she did not keep her promise of fidelity and had affairs with many. He said he killed Kalpana in anger and didn't want to live. Rathod was in a serious condition on Wednesday evening,'' Jadeja said.
Police said Rathod and Kalpana got married without the consent of their parents. Family members from the both sides do not know much about them as they didn't had any contact with the couple, police added.
