KANPUR: A 14-year-old allegedly tried to rape an 8-year-old girl in Banda district on Monday.
The police have arrested the teenager for allegedly sexually assaulting the minor girl. According to the police, the accused and victim are neighbors and reside in district's Marka locality.
Police said the incident took place on Monday afternoon but came to light on Tuesday after the parents of the victim lodged a complaint with the concerned police station in this regard.
The victim is a student of class III at a basic primary school in Marka locality, the police said, adding that the boy lured the girl under the pretext of visiting a local 'mela' (fair).
"The victim's parents apprised us about the incident on Tuesday. The police thereafter managed to nab the accused from his house," informed SHO Chiranjeev Mohan.
The victim told the police that the incident took place while she, along with the boy, had gone to see a local fair at the outskirt's of the village.
"The victim told us that the boy took her to the fields nearby saying that his sister is calling them to pluck vegetables and there he tried to rape her. However, she managed to rescue herself from the clutches of the molester and reached home," said the police.
Officer said that on Tuesday, the victim confided in her parents, who brought her to the police station to register a case.
The victim is sent for a medical test at the district hospital, added SHO.
The police have also seized the clothes she was wearing when the incident allegedly took place.
"The clothes will be sent for forensic examination and the youth has been arrested on charges of attempting to rape a minor," he said.
