KANPUR: A 16-year-old Kanya Vidhya Dhan beneficiary was allegedly burnt alive and her face badly mutilated by acid in Farrukhabad district, police said on Wednesday.
The girl's badly mutilated body was found in a 'nullah' near Habbapur village of the district on Wednesday. While the motive behind the murder is still unknown, police are suspecting the reason behind it to be an alleged love affair involving the victim. They, however, also did not rule out the possibility of gang rape, saying they were awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination.
Police said Eram Fatima, a resident of Azeezalpur village and a Class XII passout, along with her father Ameenuddin had gone to Fatehgarh 'tehsil' on December 29, 2012 to procure Kanya Vidhya Dhan cheque, from where she disappeared under highly mysterious circumstances.
Subsequently, the victim's father lodged a named FIR with Jahanganj police station of the district against one Nafees, Rais, Anees and Haseen, who hails from bordering Saurikh village of Kannauj district, alleging that his daughter had been kidnapped by them. The police acting on the complaint arrested one of the four suspects Rais on January 4 and sent him to jail. The girl's body was, recovered on Wednesday under mysterious circumstances from a road-side 'nullah' near Habbapur village. The police on being informed rushed to the spot and started investigation in this regard. The investigating cops later sent the girl's body to the district hospital for postmortem and registered a case under various Sections including 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
The police have now launched a fresh hunt to nab three other accused, who are still on the run, said SHO Jahanganj Mirza Sadre Alam Baig, who is the investigating officer. He further said police did not rule out the possibility of rape but decided to wait for the final report of the postmortem examination. "The body was found in a complete nude state. Victim's major body parts including her both hands and one leg were missing and there were serious burn injuries on the girl's face, which only suggested that the miscreants after murdering her burnt her face with acid in order to conceal her identity. Victim's father identified her with the help of clothes lying close to the body," the officer said.
Some villagers told police they spotted five to six men fleeing from the spot a couple of days ago before they spotted the girl's body on Wednesday. They claimed they could not identify the persons as it was dark.
