MUMBAI: The Bhandup police arrested two school dropouts for allegedly misbehaving with a college girl outside her house in Bhandup (W) and attacking her father with an earthen pot.
The incident occurred on Friday around 10.15pm, when the victim, who resides in a narrow bylane at Ramabai Nagar, was studying in the verandah. According to her complaint, the two accused, Aakash Takke (18) and Swapnil Sahadev (24), entered the lane and groped her. "When I shouted, they threatened me," she said in the complaint. The girl then called her father, who tried to warn the youths. "They assaulted my father and hit him on his head with an earthen pot," she said.
After a verbal feud, the accused left. "Around 12am, the victim and her father, along with a few locals, lodged a complaint. The accused, who reside in the same area, were arrested within half an hour," said senior inspector Shrirang Nadgauda. Minutes after the incident, the victim called her father outside and narrated the incident. In the complaint, the victim said, "I was studying in the verandah when the two youths entered the lane and groped me. When I shouted they threatened me. They assaulted my father when he went to warn them for their act. They attacked my father on his head with an earthen pot."
The verbal abuse between the victim's father and the two accused lasted for almost an hour-and-a-half before they left. "Around 12, the victim and her father and few locals came to the police station and lodged a complaint against the two. Based on the information, the two was caught within half an hour. We are collecting details about the accused caught in the offence. The accused are school dropouts and attacked the victim's father when he warned them," said Bhandup police senior inspector Shrirang Nadgauda.
The accused have been booked under sections 34 (common intention), 323 & 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon or means), 354 (outrage modesty) and 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
