NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old woman who left her home in Karnataka after a tiff with her husband was tricked by human traffickers into coming to Delhi, and repeatedly raped here.

Police said traffickers promised the woman a job in Delhi but on arriving here she was confined inside a house at Ghazipur in east Delhi and raped repeatedly for two days before she escaped through a window and sought help. The east district police have registered a case and caught two of the accused. Four others, including two women, are on the run and police teams have been sent to Karnataka to catch them.

Sources said the gang trapped the victim near Bangalore. Two men saw her off at the Bangalore railway station, and she reached Delhi on January 6 by the Karnataka Express along with two women traffickers.

At Nizamuddin station, a man named Zakir and a woman named Geeta picked her up on a bike. She was brought to Molla Colony in Ghazipur and locked up. The accused claimed they had paid Rs 1 lakh for her and were looking for a buyer in Mumbai and Pune.

The woman alleged Zakir raped her on January 6 and again on January 7. On January 9, she jumped out of a window and reached a police station, where, with the help of an interpreter, she gave her statement. Her medical examination confirmed rape. "We arrested Zakir and Geeta from a relative's house. A case of rape, illegal confinement and criminal conspiracy has been registered at the Ghazipur police station," said an officer.

The woman has been sent for rehabilitation and counselling to a women's home.
