MUMBAI: A constable with the Delhi police was recently arrested by the Borivli police for allegedly molesting and trying to extort money from a woman married to a habitual offender.

The incident occurred in July 2012, when the constable, Om Veer Singh, had come to Mumbai to arrest the victim's husband. Officials from the Borivli police station said the victim's husband has over 100 cases of cheating registered against him at various police stations across India.

The victim and her husband reside at a chawl in Borivali (W). In July 2012, a team of Delhi police came to nab the husband. The victim has alleged that Singh molested her when he along with his colleagues visited her house to arrest her husband. She also complained that Singh tried to extort money from her, claiming that he could use his contacts to get her husband off the case. The victim filed a complaint with the Borivali police station right then.

"Singh (40) was arrested on January 6 and let off on bail a day later by a court here. We are verifying the authenticity of the complaint," an official said.
