INDORE: A 30-year-old man, who allegedly tried to rape his 4-year-old niece, was arrested here on Saturday. He was spotted by the residents of the area, who reported the matter to the Lasudia police station.
According to the police, the accused identified as Bahadur, is a drunkard and a resident of Rahul Gandhi Nagar. At the time of the incident, the parents of the 4-year-old were not at home. Police said, parents of the victim earn meager wages and had gone out on a routine work, leaving the three children at home.
The accused, slipped into their house and on finding the children asleep, took the 4-year-old girl to a deserted place. The near-by locals gathered at the spot and thrashed the accused before handing him over to the police.
According to estimates, more than 90 per cent of rapes are attempted by an acquaintance of the victim. In another rape attempt, a 5-year-old girl died in Neeranjapur area, after being sexually exploited by her uncle.
