LUCKNOW: A minor girl was set ablaze when she resisted rape attempt in Farrukhabad district of the state, late Wednesday night. The victim is battling for life at a hospital in Saifai on Thursday. The police are on the lookout for the accused who is absconding. In another incident reported from Fatehpur district, a girl suffered multiple stab wounds when she resisted rape bid.
The Thursday incidents take the number of such cases this year to four. Earlier, another minor had died of burns in a similar incident reported from Hathras on January 2 while on January 6, a teenaged girl was set ablaze allegedly by the parents of a youth who tried to rape her in Jigna village of Allahabad.
The Farrukhabad incident took place in Nagla Preetam locality under the city Kotwali police station on Wednesday evening. Reports said the 14-year-old victim, a student of class VIII at a local public school, was all alone in her house as her family had gone to attend a marriage in Mohammadabad village when a local youth, identified as Srawan alias Atendra, sneaked into the house and tried to rape her.
Taken aback, the victim reportedly resisted the youth and even slapped him. Srawan allegedly doused her in kerosene, set her blaze and fled the scene. The victim, wrapped in flames, raised an alarm, responding to which locals came to her rescue. They doused the flames and rushed her to a private nursing home from where she was first referred to the district hospital and finally to Saifai. The doctors who attended the victim in Farrukhabad said she had suffered 80 per cent burns. The doctors in Saifai were reportedly making efforts to ensure the minor did not catch any infection that may turn fatal.
When locals informed the victim's family, they rushed back home and are now attending her at the hospital. The victim's father had lodged an FIR with the Kotwali police after which the cops detained the uncle of the accused who helped them nab the accused on Thursday morning.
In a similar incident, a girl suffered multiple stab wounds when she was attacked by a knife-wielding youth in Lallauli police circle of Fatehpur. The victim was admitted to the hospital where her condition was described critical. Reports say the accused first tried to rape the girl and when she resisted the move, he stabbed her and fled. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
