Jan 15, 2013: 3 rape cases involving minor girls; life imprisonment awarded in all three

BARNALA: A district court in Punjab announced verdict of three separate rape cases involving the rapes of minor girls and sentenced life imprisonment in each case. 

All three accused have also been fined Rs 10,000. All the case belonged to 2012 and the sentence came after 9 months. 

Taking up the case of police station Thulliwal in Barnala, court of additional sessions judge Barnala BS Sandhu sentenced Sukhdev Singh of village Kurar to life imprisonment. 

Sukhdev Singh was accused of luring a minor girl, who was living with her maternal parents after the demise of her mother, on June 26, 2012 on the pretext of marrying her. 

Thulliwal police had filed the challan on October 18 and agreeing with the contention of counsel Jatinder Kumar, the court on Tuesday announced the verdict and awarded life imprisonment along with a fine to Sukhdev Singh. 

In the second case, the court awarded life imprisonment to Charanjit Singh of village Chananwal.

As per the prosecution, Charanjit Singh on the night of April 8-9, 2012 had lured a 15-year-old village girl, also on the pretext of marrying her. 

Police arrested the man based on the complaint made by the girl and the court on Tuesday sentenced him to life too. 

In the third case, a 16-year-girl of Barnala had gone to school on March 31 but did not return back. 

The family got to know that Naresh Kumar of a nearby locality had lured the girl on the promise of marrying her. 

Police on April 12 had registered a kidnapping and rape case against Naresh. The court on Tuesday taking up the case, sentenced Naresh to life imprisonment along with fine of Rs 10,000.
