HUBLI: In yet another bizarre incident in a span of ten days, an eight year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle at Hire Malligawad village of Dharwad taluk on Sunday.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim's father, Dharwad rural police took the accused, Shivappa Kallur, 35, into their custody.
Rural Police inspector Ramanagouda Hatti said the accused was in a drunken state and was yet to be produced before the court.
According to police sources, the girl was playing near the house when her uncle Shivappa called her out and promising to give sweets, he took her to the farm on the outskirts of the village around 12.30pm. There he allegedly assaulted the girl sexually in an inebriated condition.
The girl who had suffered injuries on face, neck and chest returned home bleeding and told her parents that her uncle had assaulted her. Shocked parents brought this incident to the notice of rural police.
Case has been lodged at Dharwad rural police station. The girl is being treated at district civil hospital.
It may be recalled here that this is the second incident of minor being raped in Dharwad taluk. On January 5, a 10 year-old girl had been raped at Amminabhavi village in Dharwad by the friend of victim's father.
