HYDERABAD: A senior doctor at Osmania General Hospital admitted that he misbehaved with a woman post-graduate doctor in the face of complaints that he passed lewd comments, touched her and asked her out on a date, officials said.
The Junior Doctors Association at OGH on Thursday complained to the hospital authorities against Dr G Prakash, a professor of surgery (Unit VI) at the state-run teaching hospital, and sought his transfer.
Dr Prakash, who will retire in three years, broke down when he was called for an explanation, and as demanded by junior doctors, he gave an application to the superintendent seeking a transfer.
"The junior doctors gave a letter complaining that Dr Prakash misbehaved with a PG doctor. His transfer letter has been forwarded to the DME. He also agreed that he won't come as an examiner for Osmania," said Dr K Ramdas, hospital superintendent.
The incident comes after the state government decided to sternly deal with anyone molesting or misbehaving with women in the city and elsewhere, following nationwide outrage over the Delhi gang-rape of a physiotherapy student on December 16 last year.
The police in Hyderabad have been told to take stringent action against any complaint of sexual misbehaviour.
OGH junior doctors said that there were several complaints of sexual misbehaviour in the past against Dr Prakash.
