According to the police complaint, the incident took place on December 25, 2012. Since then, Dilip Patle has been terrorizing and threatening the girl with physical harm, due to which the victim remained silent till Saturday.
She finally broke down when her mother noticed her disturbed state of mind. "The minor, a standard VIII student, was so terrified that she did not speak a word to her mother about the incident for many days. On Saturday, when Patle was not at home, her mother repeatedly questioned her till she revealed the torture she was subjected to by Patle," said police.
Furious on hearing of her husband's deed, the mother accompanied the girl to the nearby Ambazari police station.
Cops said that the mother had noticed fear in her child's face and behaviour with Patle over the past few days. "Suspecting something amiss, she questioned the girl in Patle's absence," said police. Within an hour of the child's mother reporting the sexual harassment to the police, Patle had been arrested by the police.
The victim told the police that Patle would commit lewd acts with her when her mother, a domestic help, was out for work. Claiming that she does not remember the exact dates, the minor said Patle has molested her many times before and after December 25. She said that he even hit her with bricks when she tried to fight him off.
Patle, a cable operator, was arrested from his Bhavani Nagar residence in Kalamna, where he stays with his second wife. He denied the allegations although the medical examination shows the child was molested.
Police sources said the girl's mother had married Patle eight years earlier, after leaving her first husband. She used to stay with him at his Kalamna residence at first, but shifted to a rented room under the jurisdiction of Ambazari police station last year.
Besides molestation, threatening and hurting charges, police have also booked Patle under section 8 of the new act, the Protection of Child Against Sexual Offences Act 2012.
This is the second time this act has been used by the city police. Earlier, Imambada police had booked one for allegedly molesting a 12-year-old girl.
