GHAZIABAD: On the day of Akhilesh Yadav's visit to Ghaziabad, a six-year-old girl was found allegedly murdered after being raped in an empty patch of land near her house in Sihani Gate area in Ghaziabad. Violent protests erupted near Sihani Gate chungi and later in Raj Nagar Extension with residents protesting lawlessness in Ghaziabad. At least 18 vehicles were damaged and a dozen people injured in the incident, said police.

SP (city) SS Yadav said that an FIR has been lodged against 800 people and nearly a dozen people have been detained for questioning. "We have also identified some more people, who are yet to be arrested," Yadav said. "The mob had started moving towards Shriram Piston Company to damage the vehicles and thrash employees. There was an old enmity of one of unruly group with the company security staff. To ward off any untoward incident, we blocked the highway," Yadav added.

The girl had gone missing on Wednesday at 6pm. At the time, a puja was taking place and her mother was the only one at home. "We looked around but couldn't find her anywhere. Then we went to the police on Wednesday night and reported the incident and gave even them her photograph," said the girl's father, a driver.

The girl's father said that at 12pm on Thursday local residents of Nandgram found the her body, stripped and injured in the corner of an empty, secluded plot in the village. "She was badly injured and lying naked. There were scratches on her face and there was blood on her legs," said the girl's father.

While the girl's father has alleged that she had been raped before being murdered, the police remained tight-lipped. "It's still too early to determine whether or not she has been raped, but we have sent her body for medical examination," said a senior police officer.

Police came to the spot where the girl's body was found five hours later and tried to pacify the crowd, but the unruly mob started damaging vehicles and moving towards Modi Nagar where the CM was come to attend a function. "Modi Nagar is around 20km from Sihani Gate chungi and the mob had covered at least 2km from there. We immediately blocked the road near DPS along NH-58," said a senior police officer.

"We found the girl's clothes along with a brick. There were bloodstains on the brick her pyjamas were completely soaked in blood," said the police.

The girl's family has alleged that she was taken by anti-social elements onto the nearby NH-58. Police claim that the violence erupted by politically motivated goons who criticized the Akhilesh Yadav government and started pelting stones at the Sihani Gate chowki.

The violence escalated with the police responding to the stone-pelting with lathi-charge, tear gas and rubber bullets to try and disperse the mob. The mob had also blocked the NH-58 forcing the police to divert traffic via Bulandshahr Road. The resultant violence saw UPSRTC buses being vandalized, with their windows shattered. "We finally managed to recover the body that had been carried to the highway and immediately sent it to the post mortem house," said a senior cop.

Later in the evening at 6.30pm, locals blocked the Raj Nagar Extension road, jamming traffic and throwing stones at cops at the spot. The mob was dispersed by 6.45pm.
