NAGPUR: A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Sita Uikey (35), over a trivial issue. The incident took place on Saturday night at the couple's residence in Kolitmara village, around 30 kms from Parseoni.
Accused Prakash Uikey, who had fled the spot, was later arrested by Parseoni police from a relative's residence. According to police, Uikey used to harass Sita over dowry and also for money to buy liquor. On Saturday evening, he had an argument with Sita for not cooking dinner for him. In a fit of rage, he hit her with an iron rod due to which she died.
More than 100 people dragged a drunk policeman to Giitkhadan police station after he abused and threatened people. The cop, identified only as Bahadure, is posted at Kamptee police station. However, instead of taking action against the cop, Gittikhadan police sent back the citizens. Sources said Bahadure got into an altercation with a man while walking on the road at Zingabai Takli.
The inebriated cop started abusing the man. Soon, a crowd gathered at the spot. When the cop refused to mend his ways, the public gave him a sound thrashing and took him to Gittikhadan police station. The man Bahadure had abused wanted to lodge a complaint but sources claimed that Gittikhadan police refused to do so. Tension gripped the police station after people protested against police misbehaviour.
