Oct 12, 2011: Two held for raping 22-yr-old

MUMBAI: Two weeks after a 22-year-old mentally challenged woman was gang raped by three men, the RCF police arrested two of the accuseda"35-year-old autorickshaw driver Santosh Yadav alias Kalia and his associate Ramzan Sheikha"on Tuesday.

The accused were nabbed after an extensive search operation covering several slum localities in Chembur and Chunabhatti. The police said that the incident occurred on September 26 around 2 am when the victim stepped out of her home in Chembur.
The victim, in her complaint, said, as After walking a little distance from my parentsa home, a rickshaw stopped in front of me. The driver ordered me to sit in the vehicle in which two more men were present. They repeatedly misbehaved with me the whole night before dumping me.a? The trio took the woman to Lal Dongara"a slum pocket in between Chembur and Chunabhattia"where the rape occurred.
A constable found the victim in an unconscious state near Chunabhatti police station around 7 am. The police shifted her to Sion hospital and in the evening, she narrated the incident to her mother.
Based on the victimas description, the police made sketches of the three suspects. Additional commissioner of police (east region) Quaiser Khalid supervised a team of deputy commissioner of police (Zone V) Manoj Lohiya, RCF police senior inspector Shirish Shelke, inspector Dharia Prasad and detection staff and tracked down the accused.
Lohiya said that Yadav confessed to committing the crime along with his accomplices. Khalid said that the police got the number of autos that plied in Chembur and Chunabhatti
during the time the crime occurred.
Khalid added that the police have collected the DNA samples found on the victim and sent the samples for forensic tests. asWe also collected the CCTV footages of the places where the victim was taken in the auto,a? he said.

Yadav kidnapped her in the auto to Lal Dongar - a slum pocket falling in between Chembur and Chunnabatti where the rape happened.

The victim was found in an unconsious state near Chunnabatti police station around 7am by a police constable. Police shifted her to Sion hospital and in the evening she narrated the incident to her mother. The victim has been staying with her parents since 15 days prior to the incident.
Based on the victim's description about the accused the police sketches of 3 suspects. Additional commissioner of police (east region) Quaiser Khalid supervised a team of deputy commissioner of police (Zone V) Manoj Lohiya, RCF police senior inspector Shirish Shelke, inspector Dharia Prasad and detection staff and tracked down the main accused.
Lohiya said Yadav had confessed to committing the crime along with his accomplice after taking the victim to the Lal Dongar Slum.
Khalid said they learnt from the rickshaw unions in Chembur and Chunnabatti the numbers of rickshaw that plied during when the incident occurred. He said they have collected the DNA samples found on the victim and sent for forensic tests. asWe have also collected the CCTV footages of the places from where the victim was taken in the rickshaw,a? he added.
