VADODARA: A love affair between a married man and a woman turned into a tragedy when the man killed the woman and then committed suicide by jumping into her funeral pyre at Godhra. Apparently, the woman's refusal to elope with him - she was married - is what triggered the extreme step.
Kalpesh Rana, of Modini Wadi in Godhra, was in love with Bhavini Patel. They were in a relationship, and Rana, who wanted to marry Bhavini, had begun divorce proceedings against his wife. However, not wanting to wait for the divorce decree, Rana on Friday went to Bhavini's house asking her to elope with him.
"But on her refusal, Rana stabbed her," police said. Later at 5pm, when Bhavini's funeral pyre was burning, Rana jumped into it, leaving the mourners stunned.
