Mumbai: The Vikhroli police on Friday arrested a 37-year-old homemaker for allegedly plotting to kill her husband with the help of her paramour on September 24.
Mithilesha Singh, a resident of Malwani, allegedly committed the crime as she was frustrated with her husband, Santosh Singh (41). She told the police that he did not work or maintain physical relations with her. The police have also arrested Singh's lover, one Shobnath Singh alias Guddu (34), for allegedly helping her execute the crime.
Two weeks before the plan was executed, the police said, Mithilesha called up Guddu, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and asked him to come down to Mumbai.
"Guddu reached the city on September 23. He went to meet Santosh on September 24," said an investigating officer.
The victim was shocked to see Guddu as five years ago, they had fought over his relationship with Mithilesha. "But Guddu somehow managed to gain the victim's trust. On the pretext of seeing some lawyer, Guddu took Santosh near the mangroves at Vikhroli, where he offered him some beer spiked with eight sleeping pills, which Mithilesha had given him," said a police officer. When Santosh started losing consciousness, Guddu hit him on the head three times with a wooden object. He fled to UP the same night," said the officer.
When Santosh did not return home till September 25, his younger brother, Manoj, lodged a 'missing person' complaint with the Malwani police. Meanwhile, Vikhroli cops found Santosh's body. Quaiser Khalid, additional commissioner of police (east region) formed a team of deputy commissioner of police (Zone Vll) Sanjay Shintre, assistant commissioner of police (Vikhroli division) K K Khandale, Vikhroli police senior inspector Ravindra Javkar, inspector Dilip Thorat, sub-inspectors (Rajendra Vichare and T Y Koyande. They tracked down his residence with the help of his driving licence.
The police first suspected Mithilesha as she had not lodged a missing person's complaint and showed little emotion over his disappearance.
