MUMBAI: A 20-year-old newly married woman, who was kidnapped from Bangalore and forced into flesh trade in Mumbai , was rescued along with three others, thanks to her presence of mind.
The women were rescued from a brothel in Lamington Road. The police arrested the brothel keeper, Sumita Narayan Pujari (40). Two of Pujari's associates are wanted in the case. The accused have been booked on charges of abduction , cheating and under provisions of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.
The victim has now been admitted to JJ hospital as the brothel keeper and her associates assaulted her after she refused to entertain customers.
She hails from a small village in Bangarpeth, 80 km from Bangalore. Since her husband works in Mumbai, she went to her visit mother.
On October 5, she was waiting at Majestic railway station in Bangalore to take a local to the area where her in-laws reside . Here, two men tried to strike a conversation with her, said a police officer. "She got scared and returned to her mother's village. She came to the station the next day, but was shocked to see the two men there again. However, they approached her and asked her why she left the day before. After chatting with her, they offered her tea laced with sedatives . The woman fell unconscious after having tea. When she came to, she found herself in a cab with the men, who took her to Jamana Mansion in Khetwadi Lane," he said.
The two men had sold her to Pujari for Rs 40,000, the officer said. "Within a week, Pujari sent customers to her, but she refused to entertain them. She did this till recently, when she took one customer into confidence and narrated her story to him. He agreed to help her. Through him, she called up her husband," said the officer.
"Her husband, with the help of a local leader, approached the social service branch.Posing as a customer, he went to Jamana mansion along with police personnel. There, Pujari paraded a few girls before him. As soon as he saw his wife, he signalled the police team waiting outside. The team, led by assistant commissioner of police, Vasant Dhoble raided the brothel, resuced the victim and three other girls," said the officer.
