BHUBANESWAR: Police on Sunday detained three persons for allegedly gangraping a 16-year-old girl near the Baramunda bus stand here recently. The three suspected rapists are smalltime vendors, sources said.

On Wednesday evening, the teenager was waiting to catch a bus for going to her uncle's house in Bhanjanagar, when a man offered her a cold drink. The girl, who had reportedly fled her house in Cuttack, mistook him as a generous man and went to his house, where he, along with two others, allegedly outraged her modesty.
Police, following media reports, lodged a complaint on Saturday and conducted medical examination on her. "We have detained three persons from the area where the incident occurred. We are interrogating them," a police officer said.
Recently, a college student was offered lift in a car and allegedly gangraped inside the vehicle in Bhubaneswar. One of her tormentors was familiar with her.
