MUMBAI: Upset at his wife's alleged affair with her cousin, a constable attached with the local arms department of the Mumbai police at Tardeo division, reportedly stabbed her to death in front of their two daughters. The MIDC police arrested Shatrughan Meshram (38) on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 11.30pm at Meshram's residence PNGP Colony in the MIDC-Andheri area on Thursday around 11.30pm when he had a fight with his wife Kavita (27), over her alleged affair.
Their two daughters aged seven and eight years witnessed the incident. "The altercation between the two worsened. In a fit of rage, Meshram stabbed his wife eight times on the abdomen, chest and back," said MIDC police senior inspector S L Hujband.
The accused told the investigators that he was unhappy that his wife was in regular touch with her uncle's son. "Meshram said on several occasions, he tried to counsel her and even warned her against meeting or continuing relations with the youth. On October 27 night, after a fight, Meshram killed his wife," said a police officer.
Inspector Deepak Bagwe said they arrested Meshram within an hour of the incident. "We have recorded the statements of his two daughters, aged seven and eight years, in front of whom their father repeatedly stabbed their mother. He has been booked for murder," he said.
Investigators said that Meshram had not reported for duty at Tardeo for the last two months.
