NEW DELHI: An unidentified assailant allegedly barged into the house of a woman in west Delhi, sedated her and decamped with cash and jewellery, on Friday morning. The victim has been identified as Renu Devi, (28).
"We received a call around 10:30am about the incident. We reached the spot and rushed the victim to the hospital. A case has been registered and investigation is on," said a senior police officer. Cops said they were certain of one person's involvement in the incident. All angles including business enmity are being probed.
The incident occurred at Sudarshan Park in Moti Nagar area when the victim was brooming the verandah of her house. She told cops that a man barged inside and forcibly made her sniff a handkerchief after which she lost consciousness. One of her neighbours informed the police about the incident. The victim was taken to Acharya Bhikshu hospital.
Renu, who lives in B block with her husband, was alone in the house on Friday morning. She told the police that she had caught the accused staring at on earlier occasions. She was confident of recognizing the person if she saw him again.
Police sources said they were unsure whether it was the handiwork of more than one person.
Sources however said that the victim gave conflicting statements to the cops and that she had changed versions. We are also probing the discrepancies, added the cops.
