NEW DELHI: A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old step daughter on Monday night in southwest Delhi. The incident was reported from Dwarka Sector 1. The accused was arrested from his residence after his wife lodged a complaint against him at the Dwarka South police station.
According to the complaint, the accused had allegedly raped the teenaged girl when the victim's mother was not at home. He had also attempted to rape the girl in 2009. At that time, however, he had pleaded with his wife and begged her not to file a police complaint. "On Monday night, when the girl was alone in the house, he allegedly raped her and fled from the spot. The girl narrated the incident to her mother who lodged the report," said a senior police officer.
According to last year's statistics, 96% of the accused arrested in rape cases were known to the victims. Of the accused arrested in the past one year, 52 were relatives, 65 friends, 225 neighbours and 130 were other known persons.
