WARDHA: The girl students of Bhartiya Mahila Vikas Nursing Shikshan School, Pipari Meghe have lodged a complaint with Wardha police against Hanif Sheikh, director of the institute, accusing him of making advances, passing indecent remarks and mentally and physically harassing them. He would even get physical, the girls charged.
The students claimed that Sheikh often used to ask them to accompany him to Mumbai to get their marks increased in case the evaluation was pending.
Copies of the complaint have been sent to the Women's Commission of Maharashtra, SC/ST Commission, Mumbai, higher education minister Rajesh Tope, social welfare minster Shivajirao Moghe and some political leaders.
The girls, under the leadership of Shraddha Jhamre of Rashtriya Sambuddh Mahila Sanghatana, met superintendent of police Avinash Kumar and apprised him of the director's behaviour. Statements of all the 17 complainants were being recorded at the police station. Wardha PI Vijay Kuhikar told TOI that he was conducting an inquiry into the charges. First information report has been registered against the accused.
Chaos prevailed for a while on the premises of the collectorate and SP office when local leaders who turned up to back Hanif and supporters of the complainants almost came to blows. However, timely intervention by the officials did not allow the situation to go out of control.
